Inimitable Characters
THE ART OF THE BLURB

One of the skills I attempt to employ is the creation of standout, original characters. In my series titled Britland Calling, I invented many original characters; however, my favourite was Spade who is featured in the picture above (a cropped picture taken from the background of my cover of the fourth and final, as of yet, book of the series). She is one of the Four Playing Card Suits. four sisters who can sing, dance and act like no others. They would walk today’s talent shows. To be fair though, they’re not human, so perhaps they would be disqualified! They claim to be created by Magical Intelligent Design . . . it’s a long story.

Spade had jet-black hair styled in a humungous afro, and if you looked closely, you could spy micro-braided Gorillian period toys: a unicorn, rocking horse, piano, teddy bear, fox, soldier, bell, pair of kissing fishes, rag doll. She had huge bright pale-green eyes and white painted long eyelashes with gold painted eyelids, and all beneath her hairy caterpillar-like eyebrows. She would sometimes bat her eyelashes and flash her eyelids at others to get their attention—and if this somehow failed, wriggling her eyebrows would always clinch the deal.

Character: very chatty and cheeky, and the funniest of the Four Playing Card Suits. Digs holes for herself which she somehow manages to climb out of.

Full true name: Pallas Julie Holly Grenville

Singing voice: Soprano (the highest female voice) sub cat – soubrette in theatre song and dance terms it is a comedy character who is vain and girlish, mischievous, light-hearted and gossipy. The soubrette voice is light with a bright, sweet timbre.

Weapon: toothbrush (reveals rusty signpost to Level 3)

Below is the cover of the third book in the series where we see Spade singing  a high C in unison with her three sisters Club, Diamond and Heart (their stage names).
